The game works nicely and feels authentic

The game works nicely and feels authentic. It has that delicious tension that I love from the PC version of the game, all in a mobile package I can play on the couch or in the Maplestory M Mesos vehicle. And damn if I am not good at it. After three matches, I'd one second-place finish and one third-place, together with a kill/death ratio of 4.66. But I'm starting to think that there is something screwy going on.

Our buddies over at The Verge, who've been following the growth of the cell version very closely, appear to believe there could be bots in this game, designed to introduce a meaty target and instill confidence in new players. They've been playing the Chinese version of the sport, which has been released a bit earlier than the version here in the USA, for about a week longer than we have. Here is their take:

1 major difference in the other variations is the existence of bots, apparently made to help new players get to grips with the game. As you level up, the proportion of actual players to bots increases, and it's simple to distinguish the difference -- that the bots are pretty dumb and do not put up much of a struggle. This may be disappointing to hear for anyone who plays for the first time and is amazed with their particular latent skill level, but it's a clever way to ensure individuals have a fantastic experience when they play Maple Story.

We've reached out to the groups in Maple Story Corp. and Tencent for comment, but the existence of robots at low levels is unconfirmed.

Check out my scorecard from last night. With nine kills and a mmogdp third-place position, I'm a veritable killing machine.
